CHAPTER NINETEEN

FAITH

“I swear if I don’t get out of this house and do something soon, I’m going to go nuts,” I snap, narrowing my eyes on Axel. It’s been a month since the shooting, and he’s been on edge nearly the entire time. To make matters worse, the only time he’s touched me is when he holds me at night while we’re sleeping or when he ‘helps’ me around the house like I can’t walk on my own.

The doctor at my last checkup said I was good to move around, just that I needed to take it easy. This didn’t stop Axel from babying me. It’s driving me nuts. All I want to do is get out of the house and go somewhere. Anywhere. I need out of here at least for a little while.

“You know you gotta take it easy, baby,” Axel says with a heavy breath. I know I’m getting on his nerves with my constant pleading to go out and do something.

“Yeah, but that doesn’t mean I have to stay cooped up in the house twenty-four seven.” I pout, crossing my arms over my breasts and pushing them up in the process. Axel’s eyes drop to the bare flesh of the tops of them. “Couldn’t I just go over to the clubhouse?”

Axel brings his gaze back to mine and shakes his head. “Prefer if you stay here where I know you’re safe. Right now, we’re still trying to figure shit out.”

“What are you trying to figure out? What’s keeping me from going all of fifty feet to the clubhouse and hanging out in the main room?” He’s not told me anything about what’s going on, and it’s starting to tick me off.

“You don’t need to worry about it, baby,” he says, pulls his phone from his pocket, and looks at it before shoving it back in. “The boys are with Lyrica until later. I’ve got to get to the clubhouse and help with some shit.” Axel moves in and leans over me. “If you need me, text or call, and I’ll be right here.”

His words seriously piss me off, and as he pulls away from me, I don’t just glare at him. I flip my shit and throw my phone at him as I climb out of bed.

“Stop babying me and patronizing me,” I yell, balling my hands into fists as I stand before him.

“Get back in bed, Faith.”

“No, I won’t get back in bed.” I jut my chin out and refuse to back down. “I’m sick of it. You are keeping me wrapped in bubble wrap so tight I can’t breathe.”

“I’m keeping you safe.” He growls, narrowing his eyes to little slits.

“You’re suffocating me,” I scream. I’m not one to lose it, but I’m sick of it. I can’t handle it anymore. “You won’t let me out of the house. Hell, I haven’t been able to cook or take care of my boys in a month. I get the threat you’re trying to find. Still, I don’t want it to take over my goddamn life.
